The gabion mesh (also called gabine mesh) is made of high-corrosion resistant, high-strength, ductile low-carbon steel wire or the above steel wire covered with PVC.
The box structure made using this net is a gabion nesh. According to the ASTM and EN standards, the diameter of the low carbon steel wire used varies according to the engineering design requirements.
Generally between 2.0-4.0mm, the tensile strength of the steel wire is not less than 38kg/m2, and the weight of the metal plating is generally higher than 245g/m2. The diameter of the edge of the gabion mesh is generally larger than the diameter of the wire.
The length of the double stranded portion must not be less than 50mm to ensure that the metal coating and PVC coating of the stranded wire is not damaged.
The use of gabion nets is extensive. It is mainly used in rivers to reinforce river banks and guide water flow. The gabion mesh cages that reinforce the river banks are generally used on the inner side of the embankments. They are mainly used in places where the flow rate of the river is relatively turbulent. The rivers scour the gabion net instead of directly flushing the embankments, thus alleviating the damage to the embankments.
